They say that 10 years is an absolute necessity to gain the experience needed to be effective in a position, task or responsible position.  It's not always possible to excel with many more years of experience but if you keep an open mind and a sense of wonder at evolving technologies then even 30+ years can capitalize on the experiences gained.
